Programme overview

The Diploma in Innovation Management provides students with the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of companies in their drive towards innovation and establishing an innovative business environment.

You will learn about innovation and change and how it effects business operations. You will seek to identify new process technologies that are appropriate to your industry and that will contribute to improving operational efficiency and competitiveness. The programme will also address how to manage new product innovation strategies and process technologies effectively, and identify appropriate business process improvements to facilitate the introduction of such technologies.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme students will be able to:

  • Identify and develop the skills necessary to manage innovation at both operational and strategic levels in their organisation

  • Familiarise themselves with business process improvement methods and simulation tools

  • Present a professional innovative idea to their peers with the potential to improve business within their organisation


The programme is worth 30 ECTs in total. There are four individual modules and a project to complete. Each module is worth five ECTs while the company project is worth ten ECTs .

Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma in Technology Commercialisation can progress to the MSc in Technology Management, when it is offered again hopefully in 2022-23, and gain exemptions for modules completed on one of the postgraduate diplomas, please see Here for more details.
